Blair Atholl

4th Nov to 10th Nov 2023

Our first trip in the new Burstner. We debated where to go on this first outing: somewhere familiar or somewhere close to home. We chose somewhere familiar – Blair Castle Caravan Park, somewhere we have been perpetually drawn to over the last 25 years. Our last trip was back in March 2023 so we were a little over-due.

The site was just as we remember it. Being November tourers were being clustered around particular washrooms to avoid heating all the blocks. We were surprised at how busy the site was until we realised that it was the last weekend for the Enchanted Forest attraction in Pitlochry and the forthcoming weekend was the start of the annual sale at House of Bruar and the start of the Christmas Markets at Blair Castle.

The main reason we love this site so much is the availability of excellent walking directly from the site. We had only booked for 3 nights but ended up extending to 6 because the weather was unexpectedly good and the autumnal scenery was breathtaking. During our stay we managed 4 full days of walking. I say “full”, this is circa 10miles a day for us and twice that for Mac, so after 4 days we all needed a holiday.

Motorhome Niggles

This being a brand new motorhome, I was expecting to notice something on its first outing:

  1. Leisure battery flat after arriving at Blair Atholl. Not just low, but the warning light was flashing. The leisure battery should charge from the van alternator when the engine is on so this was a surprise after a 6 hour drive. It did re-charge via the hook-up, but the cause needs investigation and fixing by the dealer – TMD Motorhomes.
  2. Reversing Camera – blue screen. Not every time the vehicle is put in reverse but usually the time you actually need it. TDM Motorhomes tech support say it has been seen before and needs a software update. Which does beg the question, if you have seen it before why didn’t you update the software during the pre-delivery preparation?.

Round trip distance 675 miles according to google maps.
