The poor availability of campsite pitches in southern Bavaria at the moment, together with our difficulty in using stellplatze because of the restrictions in freedom it forces on us, has forced a rethink.
Yesterday we changed direction and headed for the Black Forest. Although busy, there seem to be places with availability online and we have never explored this area. We did a 5 hour drive East to West yesterday. We past lake Constance once more, which although the lake and backdrop of the mountains was idyllic, it was so busy it lost some of it’s charm. We are currently at Camping Kirchzarten which is quite a large site in the small quaint town of Kirchzarten near Freiburg im Breisgau. The site is large but spacious with marked pitches and plenty of shade (its still very hot here 28 degrees again today). What’s remarkable about this site is the facilities it offers. Next door is a multi-pool open air swimming complex, then there are tennis courts, a restaurant, a shop, the most modern toilet block I have ever had the pleasure to use, and a simple stroll takes you into the small town centre. Oh not to mention the stream which criss-crosses the above which Mac can’t get enough of jumping into.
The price of 82 Euro for 2 nights (excluding electric) isn’t too bad considering the facilities and also includes local public transport. One last thing. For those of you who’s responsibilities include this job. This site has electronic toilet cassette cleaning machines. You pop it in the front along with 2 euro and in a few minutes it comes out fresh and clean and re-charged with chemicals. What sort of magic is this?
Heading north west through the Black Forest and we found this gem of a site. Natur-Camping Langenwald. If you know and love the highlands of Perthshire as we do, then this site will appeal to you too. It’s a nicely laid out site with a stream running through it and a lake close by. There’s a outside pool, shop, restaurant and superb facilities. I can’t praise this site enough – best this trip.
