All of the repair work for the water ingress has now been completed. The motorhome is now as good as it was before the issue, with no trace that the side lockers used to fill with water when it rained. So, as the weather is starting to show signs of spring, and the motorhome is fixed, its time to think about getting out and about again.
But before we head off, I need to make sure that the water tanks are clean after the winter. I drained the tanks before the cold weather, so they were dry rather than containing what could have been stagnant water, but it make sense to sterilise the tanks and the pipework before we start using them again. I use Puriclean (can be found on Amazon here) and leave it in the tank and pipes overnight before flushing thoroughly with clean water.
For our first trip of 2023, we decided not to go too far and just for a couple of nights. We picked Wirral Country Park Club Campsite which sits on the Dee estuary overlooking north Wales. The location was superb and with luck on our side we managed bag the best pitch on the site with stunning views across the estuary. On the Friday when we arrived, the weather was as you expect for late March. We walked along the beach to West Kirby with a few small showers and drizzle. Not that Mac minded. He loves the beach and whilst we walked about 8 miles he must have run 28. The Saturday was a total contrast. The sun came out, the wind dropped to gentle breeze and temperature climbed. After another long walk towards Heswell this time, we spent the rest of the day sitting out in the sunshine watching and listening to the birds and talking to the other campers as they walked past to admire our views.
The shower block was basic but clean. Being a Club site, it had everything you would need and the wardens were friendly and accommodating. I did notice that the water temperature in the shower was adequate but I would normally have it hotter. With energy being so expensive at the moment I can understand why CAMC would drop the thermostat a few degrees, but they have also increased their prices considerably too. Something to watch as we get into the season proper.
I think it was our luck with the “perfect” pitch that made this trip the success it was. Definitely a site we will come back to.
