Bala

10th April 2025 – 12th April 2025

Another short break to fit in with Moira’s work and my hectic golf schedule and to make the most of the wonderfully unseasonal weather we have been enjoying. Moira wanted to visit lake Vyrnwy to walk along the shoreline, so that was our objective for this trip. However, the access roads to the lake, that google maps decided we should take, were unsuitable for a motorhome like ours. Single narrow B roads for about 7 miles. I’m sure there are other access roads but we had already arrived at the “Not Suitable for Coaches” sign, and we didn’t fancy a huge detour. My fault for not double checking.

The alternative was a little further along the road into Wales – Bala.

We found a super little private site almost on the lakeside called – Pen Y Bont Touring and Camping Park. Although it was a little on the expensive side, the facilities and location were superb. The pitches were beautifully managed and level. The toilet bock was new with under-floor heating and lovely hot water. The location was 2 minutes walk from the lake and 10 minutes into the small town. There was also an activity centre on the lakeside with canoes, kayaks and small boats to hire as well as SUPs.

We took a long walk along the south east side of the lake to Llangower. There is no footpath along the shoreline, but there was a small road next to the narrow gauge railway track, with hardly any traffic which was fine even with the dog.

As you will see from the photographs the weather was stunning for April which made for a superb couple of days away. Judging by his reaction, Mac had a great time too.
