17thJun 2022 to 18th Jun 2022
A weekend break this time with my sister and her partner.
The inspiration for the weekend was to visit Melton Mobray, so I suggested we use the Rutland Caravan and Camping site as a base. We have used it before during Covid and were impressed with it’s lovely location on the outskirts of the village of Greetham. Greetham reminds me of the Cotswolds with its sandstone houses and thatched cottages. It also has a couple of great pubs within easy walking distance of the camp site.
We had booked just 2 nights: Friday and Saturday. As Moira and I don’t work on Fridays we arrived just after lunch and set up. The weather was superb. Blue skies and upper twenties, so we sat outside in the sun and meandered into Greetham for a stroll and to let Mack cool off in the stream.
When the others arrived after work the BBQ came out and we emptied a few tins whilst putting the world to rights.
Saturday was a bit of a shock. Back to British summertime – 13 degrees and rain. But that didn’t stop a trip to Rutland Water and a walk around the shoreline to the church at Normanton. The weather put paid to another evening outside with the BBQ so we went to the Crown in a village for some really excellent pub grub. The burgers were a sight to behold standing 6 inches above the plate – yum.
The irresistible pull of Barnsdale gardens had Moira in it’s grip on Sunday, but oddly they are not very dog friendly so Mack and myself had to stay in the motorhome, whilst Moira stocked up on weird plants.

Don Amott made a temporary fix to the roof to prevent any further water damage, but another warranty claim is required to replace a “roof strap” which I am told is the cuase of the problem. I await another call from Don Amott to arrange the installation.
Round trip distance 156 miles according to google maps.
