Kilmore Quay, County Wexford

15th Sept 2024

Where next? Our aim this trip was to head around the coastline clockwise from Dublin and see how far we get before we need to go home. We picked Kilmore Quay Holiday Park as our next destination near Wexford and a leisurely hours drive from Arklow. This site is next to the sea front at the little village of Kilmore Quay with its thatched cottage atmosphere, marina and working fishing docks.

We arrived to a lovely sunny day so took a long walk down the beach. The waves were crashing along the steep sandy beach, and with a sea breeze it was an exhilarating stroll. With appetite now engaged we had a superb chippy tea from the Saltee Chipper followed by my first real Guiness of the holiday at Kehoe’s Pub & Parlour.

The next morning was a wet one. We headed to Wexford to look around. I am sure in mid summer on a Saturday Wexford is worth a visit – not so much on a wet Sunday in September.

Just a note about the site for future reference. Kilmore Quay Holiday Park is made up of a 20 to 30 hand standing pitches with a facilities bock in the middle. It also has an overflow field at the back. To use the shower you need 2 euros but it is hot and lasts long enough to get a good shower. The proprietors were friendly and happy to help although they don’t use computers just yet so booking is by phone and payment cash.
