Blair Castle Caravan Park

The last few weeks have not been without a certain amount of stress, so it was great to roll into Blair Castle Caravan site once again to relax a little. I don’t need to describe the site of location after so many visits, but this visit was made special this time by the glorious weather. We sat outside every evening with a BBQ in the sunshine. Just what the doctor ordered.

Although the temperature was comparatively tropical compared to our normal visits, we did manage a few walks in and around the surrounds of Blair Atholl. A notable absence was the Red Squirrel. We would normally see a few during a visit, but this visit not one. Lets hope this does not become a regular occurrence.

North Ledaig Caravan Park (Oban)

We only stayed 3 nights at Blair Atholl, although as always, we could have stayed far longer. But this trip I wanted to spend some time on the west coast. We chose Oban for our base and specifically North Ledaig Caravan Park. It has been over 15 years since we last visited this site. The last time when the kids were still children in a motorhome I borrowed for a few weeks from my Mom. It hasn’t changed. From a location point of view this is a real positive – what a site. On the banks of Loch Linnhe with pitches just a few feet from the water – breath-taking especially as the sun sets. Although adequate, the infrastructure of the campsite is just the same too.

Before I move on, I do need to mention a superb excursion from the north pier in Oban – Oban Sea Tours. If you get the change and the inclination for a boat trip around the local waters, then head here. There are many similar operations out of Oban, but I would recommend this one. The boat is a twin hull with dual 400HP diesels, so it’s stable and can cover the trip to Mull and the islands confidently. More importantly the friendly crew made it their mission to talk to you (individually) about the wildlife, scenery and geology as we cruised. Although the minke whales and white tailed eagles were hiding that day, it was a great trip.

Englethwaite Hall Club Campsite

As the week went on the weather decided that too mush sunshine was an over-indulgence for Scotland, and so provided the final stages of a tropical storm. Storm force winds, thunder storms and rain were forecast for Oban. So we decided to move south to avoid a soaking. There was last minute availability at Englethwaite Hall Club Campsite in Carlisle. What a little gem of a discovery and just a few miles from the M6. It’s a quiet, tranquil site with a relaxed feel. It even has it’s own Fairy Garden and our 4 legged friends are also well catered for with dog walks and a fenced paddock. We’ll stop off here again.

Motorhome Niggles

The catch for the flyscreen on the rear window fell off.

The tightening screw that holds the rear windown open on the drivers side broke.

Both of the side lockers in the rear lounge area suffered water ingress. Not just a drip or two, but my clothes were soaked in the passenger side locker and there was mold growing in the drivers side locker, so this is not a new problem.

Round trip distance 799 miles according to google maps.
