Back in May this year we had a great few days in Maryport, Cumbria staying on the quayside (https://arkmotorhomes.co.uk/2024/05/). Looking further north up the west coast we found a similar site – Killrush Marina Caravan and Camper Park so we thought we would give it a go. To reduce the driving a little, and for a bit of fun, we headed up the N67 and jumped on the Shannon Ferry at Tarbert. The ferry landed in Killrush and the site/marina was just a few miles down the road.
Killarney is a very prosperous town with large well maintained hotels and bars. Killrush is pretty much it’s opposite. A seaside town that has seen better days, probably in the mid seventies judging by some of the shop fronts. We decided that one night was enough.
Back on the Wild Atlantic Way we headed north again, to Doolin opposite the Aran islands – where the jumpers come from. We headed towards Nagles Camping & Caravan Park. We didn’t have a booking, and just showed up. Not to worry – plenty of room. The season is ramping down fast in Ireland at this time of year and in fact this site closes next week. The site is right next to the Doolin Ferry and has a lovely open feel with the standard facilities we have come to expect. Doolin village is a short walk and has a number of pubs and eateries along with crafty shops selling local produce including the iconic Aran jumpers.
We did the Doolin Ferry cruise around the Cliffs of Moher. Only about an hour, but you see the cliffs, caves and stone stacks the way they should be seen, rather than peering over a cliff edge trying to keep an over-excited spaniel from taking a closer look.
