30th April 2021 to 7th May 2021
Now Nicola has eased restrictions on Lockdown in Scotland (on 26th April) we thought we would revisit our favourite place – Blair Atholl.
Starting early (about 05:30), we are in the habit of stopping for a full English / Scottish breakfast at Tebay Services in Cumbia. The Scottish element is of course haggis with your bacon and eggs – gets you in the mood for a relaxing Scottish break.
We have been coming to the Blair Castle Caravan Park for over 20 years now. We find it has a quiet charm all of it’s own and is somewhere we always head for when we are north of the border. As we are so familiar with the area, we can walk the local hills without maps which is our primary pastime. Over this last week we managed over 35 miles of planned walks and experienced scottish weather at it’s most unpredictable: warm sunshine, rain, sleet, snow and then warm sunshine again. All in about an hour. But as they say up there, it’s not the weather thats the problems it unsuitable clothing.
Our first walk was Clunie Woods, overlooking Pitlochry. This time we tries anti-clockwise for a change. I preferred it as the ascent was a little gentler that way around.
Our second walk was a relatively new one. Heading toward Bruar Falls from the castle but taking a higher trial for better views of the river and valley.
After a day’s break because of the rain, our third walk was a long standing favourite – Marble Lodge.
Our last walk was only a few miles, but in the snow in May!!. We awoke to the sound of snow sliding off the roof of the motorhome, and found that 3 inches of the white stuff had fallen overnight.
Here are a few photos :
Motorhome Niggles
Nothing major this trip – however the internal window surround for the window above the kitchen area came loose. By loose I mean the top left corner hanging down 6 to 8 inches and flapping as we drove. The screw holding the frame at this corner was missing. Had it ever been there? Anyway a simple fix with a new screw.
Round trip distance 685 miles according to google maps.
