Pitlochry and Blair Athol

27th June to 3rd July 2024

This trip was focussed around the Heartland music festival which was located in Pitlochry over the weekend of 29th and 30th June. We had tickets for the Sunday.

As it’s quite a long journey for a music event (340 miles each way) we decided to stop over at our usual haunts for a few days and do a little walking. We pitched at Blair Castle Caravan Park as usual and walked the estate and castle grounds down towards Bruar. We also explored the waterfalls between Calvine and Struan which is not far from Bruar.

For convenience we booked a couple of nights at Milton of Fonab Caravan Park in Pitlochry as it was within easy walking distance of the music festival. We have often driven past this site on our way to Pitlochry Festival Theatre which is a favourite parking stop for the Clunie Walk . This walk is an 7-8 mile hike into the hills above Pitlochry with superb views over the surrounding mountains. Stunning in the winter when there is snow on the ground. Anyway, this little campsite turned out to be quite a find. Very well managed and maintained in a great location. The shower block even had individual wet rooms with underfloor heating. I am sure we will return.

The music festival was great fun. Our main focus was a Scottish band we have seen a few times called Skerryvore. Judging by conversations with other festival goers, they were the main attraction of the day and didn’t disappoint. Moira even managed yet another selfie with the band.

Here are a few photos :

Motorhome Niggles

Reassuringly still none at all. Apart from my clumsiness in snapping of the key in the lock for the electric drop down bed. Luckily in the ON position.

Round trip distance 689 miles according to google maps.
