Maryport
It’s been a few months since we ventured out in the motorhome. Not because our enthusiasm is waning, but because we took a trip to the Caribbean in April instead of heading out in the van. Whilst St Lucia was absolutely stunning, it was a treat to mark our big birthdays and probably not something we could afford again too often.
For this trip, we decided to simply follow the sun. We looked around the country for a forecast with 3 days of sun and found the Cumbrian Coast fitted the bill. A quick search of the area revealed a site called Harbour Side Caravan Site in Maryport, which is not far from Cockermouth. This little site turned out to be a gem. The pitches overlooked the marina with a small new amenity block and an on-site Café. Both the town of Maryport and the beach were an easy walk in either direction.
We spent our time either walking along the beach with the dog or sitting with a drink and BBQ watching the boats in the marina. One other thing to mention is the fresh fish. Chelaris Fresh Fish dock their boats on the quayside at Maryport and sell the freshly caught fish direct to the public. We bought some fresh Brill and Hake and cooked it on the BBQ – lovely. If you like langoustines then this is the place to go.
