Moreton in Marsh – a weekend trip

15th April 23 to 17th April 23

Another short trip for a weekend away, this time to the Cotswolds. I found a Caravan and Motorhome Club site at Moreton in Marsh and thought we should give it a go. It fitted our initial criteria in that it was within walking distance of places of interest and it wasn’t too far from home, given we were only going for a couple of nights.

The site was well laid out, had a great dog area and frequent catering trucks on specific evenings for fish & chips or Pizza etc. Some of the hardstanding pitches were undergoing renovation work although I have seen far worse. The facilities were exactly as you would expect at a club site, warm and clean. My nervousness that the shower temperature had been reduced was unfounded. Perhaps it was only a feature of the Wirral site.

Moreton in Marsh is a lovely village. Picturesque with its Cotswold stone buildings lining the high street with no sign of the major fast food brands, just quaint pubs and cafes interspersed with antiques shops and art galleries. A great place to spend a few relaxing hours.

Just down the road in the other direction (from the campsite) is Batsford Arboretum. As Moira has a passion for gardening, plants and horticulture in general, this was a must see. It was well worth the visit especially since the magnolias were in full bloom.

One other highlight that is worth mentioning and close by, is Diddly Squat Farm shop. If you have watched Jeremy’s series “Clarkson’s Farm” you will be familiar with the shop and the reason behind the muddy field that should be a car park. It’s such a shame that the local planning committee have taken such a dislike to what he has tried to achieve. Despite them, there seems to be a permanent (1 hour plus) queue of people waiting patiently in the mud to enter the shop and the cafe.

Another great weekend.
